2012 Symposium on Indoor Flight Issues
1 August 2012
(in concert with the International Aerial Robotics Competition)
at the University of
North Dakota in Grand Forks
Topics:
Papers are sought for the following Symposium topics:
Session 1: Systems for Flight in Confined Areas
Session 2: Autonomous Flight Control in Micro Air Vehicles
Session 3: Close Quarters Obstacle Detection and Avoidance
Session 4: Indoor Navigation Apart from GPS
Session 5: Low Power Communication in Spectrally-Cluttered Environments
Session 6: Survivable Airframes and Propulsors in Obstacle-Rich Environments
NOTE TO IARC TEAMS: Team papers (required by the Official
Rules) will be contained within Session 1, "Systems for Flight in
Confined Areas" since
these papers will describe all aspects (systems engineering) of the various
entries.
Abstract Deadline:
600 - 800 word abstracts are due via E-MAIL to millennialvision.llc@gmail.com no
later than 5 May 2012. The abstract must be submitted electronically
in .pdf format. Non-team journal papers will recieve full peer review
with one round of editing/rewrite allowed prior to notice of acceptance/rejection.
Team journal papers are considered
"invited submissions" and are due in accordance with the Official
Rules no later than 1 June 2012 via E-MAIL to millennialvision.llc@gmail.com.
Only electronic submissions will be accepted. All accepted or invited
papers will be published electronically provided that the paper is presented
at the symposium. Unpresented papers will go unpublished.
Submission of Extended Abstracts/Papers
Extended abstracts to be submitted should be three-five
pages with key figures and references. They should clearly state the
purpose, the methodology, the results and the conclusions of the work,
and should begin with a short summary of four to six lines. Authors are
encouraged to submit a full paper for the review process. Authors are
strongly encouraged to use the formatting style described below for submitting
an abstract as this format is required for the full paper.
Review of Abstracts and Author Notification
All the abstracts submitted are refereed by three
members of the Scientific Committee. Scope, originality, completeness and clarity,
and cited references of the abstracts are mainly considered in the review process.
Acceptance of the papers is based on the referees' comments, which
are made available to the corresponding author once the review process
is completed. One round of editing/rewrite
will be allowed prior to notice of acceptance/rejection on or before
15 June 2012.
In order for your abstract to receive a full review,
the following information MUST be supplied along with your submission:
- Title of paper
- Name, complete mailing address and phone, E-MAIL of first author
only
- Names, affiliations, city, state, country of additional authors
- Person to whom correspondence should be sent, if other than the first
author
- Identification as "Called" or "Team journal" paper
- Suggested area (as listed under the Sessions above) into which the abstract
fits.
- 600 - 800 word abstract
Final Submission Deadline:
Your final accepted .pdf copy is due via E-MAIL
to millennialvision.llc@gmail.com by
1 July 2012 in .pdf format. (no hard copy is required). Note that submission
of a final accepted manuscript to the above E-MAIL address grants the
symposium organizers the right to publish your .pdf manuscript on the
internet, but that the authors maintain the rights to their own work
and further state by virtue of their submission,
that their employers or funding agencies approve of the release of the
manuscript for presentation and publishing on the internet in association
with the 2012 Symposium on Indoor Flight Issues. Finally, by
submitting their manuscripts, authors take full responsibility for all
release of information under ITAR restrictions.
Submission Format:
Papers are limited to 12 pages (including figures
and references, if any). The format shall have text occupying
a space no greater than 9 inches tall by 6.5 inches wide centered on
each page. Font size shall be 12 point (serif font) with 14 point leading.

All accepted or invited papers will be
published electronically provided that the paper is presented at
the symposium. Authors, or their representatives, are expected to present
their paper at the Symposium. Unpresented papers will go unpublished.
Symposium Registration Fee:
Registration for the 2012 Symposium on
Indoor Flight Issues will be conducted from 10 AM to Noon on
31 July at the Interntional Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC)
registration table in the Center for Innovation in Grand
Forks adjacent to the University of North
Dakota. There is no registration fee.
