First Symposium on Indoor Flight Issues

Topics:
Papers are sought for the following Symposium
topics:
Session 1: Systems for Flight in Confined Areas
Session 2: Autonomous Flight Control in Micro Air Vehicles
Session 3: Close Quarters Obstacle Detection and Avoidance
Session 4: Indoor Navigation Apart from GPS
Session 5: Low Power Communication in Spectrally-Cluttered Environments
Session 6: Survivable Airframes and Propulsors in Obstacle-Rich Environments
NOTE TO IARC TEAMS: Team papers (required by the Official
Rules) will be contained within Session 1, "Systems for Flight in
Confined Areas" since
these papers will describe all aspects (systems engineering) of the various
entries.
Abstract Deadline:
600 - 800 word abstracts are due via E-MAIL to millennialvision.llc
@ gmail.com by 1 May 2009. The abstract should
be submitted electronically in .pdf format. Team journal papers are considered
"invited submissions" and are due in accordance with the Official Rules
no later than 1 June 2009 via E-MAIL to millennialvision.llc
@ gmail.com. Only electronic
submissions will be accepted.
In order for your abstract to receive a full review,
the following information MUST be supplied along with your submission:
- Title of paper
- Name, complete mailing address and phone, E-MAIL of first author
only
- Names, affiliations, city, state, country of additional authors
- Person to whom correspondence should be sent, if other than the first
author
- Identification as "called" or "Team journal" paper
- Suggested area (as listed under the Sessions above) into which the abstract
fits.
- 600 - 800 word abstract
Author Notification:
Authors will be notified of their paper invitation
based on the merits of their submitted abstract on or before
1 June 2009. Note that Team journal papers are accepted by default because
they are required under the Official IARC rules. Accepted papers are
due no later than 1 July 2009. Accepted papers will undergo peer review
to assure credibility of the material presented and conformance with
formatting requirements. Papers lacking the technical merit implied by
the original abstract submission, will not be presented or published.
Papers which meet the standards of the peer review will
be eligible for presentation and publication although minor editing may
be requested of the author prior to the final Submission Deadline. Authors
will be notified of their final manuscript status
no later than 6 July 2009. Edits must be completed no later than 10 July
2009.

Your final camera-ready copy is due via E-MAIL
to millennialvision.llc
@ gmail.com by 10 July 2009 in .pdf format.
(no hard copy is required).
Submission Format:
Papers are limited to 12 pages (including figures
and references, if any). The format shall be single-sided with text occupying
a space no greater than 9 inches tall by 6.5 inches wide centered on
each page. Font size shall be 12 point (serif font) with 14 point leading.

All papers will become part of the IARC Symposium
on Indoor Flight Issues proceedings which will
be distributed to the Symposium participants.

Abstract Submission:
At any time up until 1 May 2009, authors
may submit abstracts to millennialvision.llc
@ gmail.com. Questions about the symposium may be directed to this E-MAIL
address as well.
Symposium Registration Fee:
Because the is the inaugural year for this
symposium and because it is an integral part of the International
Aerial Robotics Competition, the Organizers have decided to welcome
all attendees without charge (this year only). There will be
a very nominal (at cost) charge for refreshments and copies of
the papers, but this first year there will be no registration
fee. The 2010 Symposium will have a reasonable registration
fee.
In keeping with past practice, the International Aerial Robotics
Competition will likewise be free of charge to spectators. It
has been free for the past 18 years and will continue to be so.
